The Monterey-Salinas Transit District provides bus service to the greater Monterey and Salinas areas as far south as Templeton and Big Sur and as far north as Santa Cruz and San Jose. Service originates from two primary locations: the Monterey Transit Plaza, in downtown Monterey, and the Salinas Transit Center, in downtown Salinas. The MST site provides many tips on how to ride, including maps, a list of bus routes and a link to download the Transit app. For riders who don’t want to use an app, riders can use MST RealTime on text, phone, or Google maps) to get real-time information about the arrival of the next bus.
Current members of the district are Monterey County and the cities of Carmel, Del Rey Oaks, Gonzales, Greenfield, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Salinas, Sand City, Seaside, and Soledad. A board of directors with a representative from each member jurisdiction governs the agency and appoints the general manager.

From Monterey County Weekly...
Three-and-a-half years ago, Monterey-Salinas Transit made paying for bus fares as easy as the tap of a card, convenient for anyone who has a credit or debit card. Those without cards were left fumbling for change. A new partnership between MST and an initiative that offers a way for people to open low-fee bank accounts and thus gain contactless bank cards is set to eliminate the fumbling, as well as provide MST with some cost savings.
