The burgs of Grass Valley, Nevada City, and Truckee are coming alive as California reopens after the pandemic, and it’s time to get out and enjoy literary readings, art shows, live music, and more. Hit the streets and you’ll find galleries and indie bookstores have reopened their doors, showing why the California Arts Council defined two Cultural Districts in the county out of a total of only 14 in the state. And the return of Grass Valley’s acclaimed world-music California WorldFest—one day this year, and back to four in 2022—is another reason to celebrate.
Downtown art festivals don’t come much more old-timey than Nevada City’s First Friday Artwalk, where you’ll find eclectic galleries hosting artist receptions, along with live music, wine-tasting rooms, and special boutique sales.

Grass Valley Downtown Association promises, “Artists will do demonstrations, musicians will play,” and you may strike gold from all the gallery offerings.

Non-profit arts org Center for the Arts presents this celebrated global music bash under the ponderosas in the heart of the Sierra Nevada. Lots of family-friendly fun, workshops, and art from all over the world. After being canceled in 2020, the fest returns for one day this year on July 17.
