Like many small railroad towns in the 19th Century, Truckee’s businesses were strung along a main thoroughfare known as Front Street or Commercial Row. Author Stephen H. Provost has released his new book “Sierra Highway: U.S. 395 and El Camino Sierra in California and Nevada (Highways of the West).” The guidebook is a historical travelogue, featuring more than 550 images and is the fourth installment in the Highways of the West series following Highway 395.

The Sierra Speaker Series, a monthly event aimed at connecting individuals with the rich cultural and natural history of the Sierra region, is set to offer a captivating presentation on the often overlooked role of Chinese laborers in Truckee’s history.

The Nevada City race will be followed by the Heart of Gold Festival, which is a celebration of wellness featuring great food and brews, live local bands, a Kid Zone with lawn games, a bike rodeo and an outdoor recreation and wellness Vendor Village including businesses and organizations focused on recreation and youth mental health.

Conceptual designs for the revitalization of the historic Cal-Neva Resort were revealed at Bowl Incline. The property was purchased by real estate investment, development and management firm, McWhinney, in April 2023.
