The Truckee Town Council met on Tuesday, Oct. 8 to discuss an update from staff and the River Revitalization Steering Committee on the progress of the River Revitalization project. 

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced the award of $7.5 million in grants for 10 projects that support public recreational boating access to state waterways, including several in the Lake Tahoe basin.

A group of 18 dedicated community leaders appointed to the Town of Truckee's River Revitalization Steering Committee have been active in their work over the past year to formulate possible ways to reshape and revitalize the downtown river corridor. Formed in 2023 as a specific action of the General Plan 2040, R2SC has focused on balancing environmental protection with economic development. 

Viewers of the "Guardians of Lake Tahoe: A Dive into Aquatic Conservation" webinar were treated to the unique experience of diving in the Emerald Forest, a part of the Emerald Bay filled with submerged trees and remnants of avalanches past. The California State Parks hosted a livestream of diver and state park interpreter Jeremy Lin as he performed an invasive species survey and explained the importance of preserving and protecting Lake Tahoe.

A peak under the bottom barriers at the Taylor and Tallac creeks and marshes reveal the mats successfully treated 17 acres of aquatic invasive plants in one of Tahoe's largest aquatic invasive species control projects ever undertaken.

Before considerable scientific research by Western Nevada College Professor of Geosciences Dr. Winnie Kortemeier, it was understood that Lake Tahoe, the largest alpine lake in North America, was created during the Pleistocene era, also known as the Ice Age, roughly 10,000 to 2.6 million years ago. Through her radiometric dating of rocks and examining the basalt that has interacted with the water of Lake Tahoe, Dr. Kortemeier has determined that the lake is 2.3 million years old.

AT&T has announced it will resume removal of the controversial lead-clad cables in Lake Tahoe.

The League to Save Lake Tahoe recently released its findings from July 5 beach cleanups compiled over the last 11 years revealing that 60 percent of the trash collected is plastic, according to a press release.
