The Tahoe Transportation District is a bi-state agency created by legislators of California and Nevada in 1969 and is responsible for operating South Lake Tahoe’s coordinated transit system, which includes the South Shore fixed-route service, plus commuter service connecting with Carson City and the Carson Valley, and paratransit service.

The TTD receives policy direction from an appointed 12-member board of directors.

South Lake Tahoe transit options will be expanded during the Christmas/New Year's week with an increased schedule of motor coach round trips from Reno-Tahoe International Airport. In addition, free bus and shuttle routes throughout town for special events are expanding in 2025. The carless options also make for convenient and safe travel in snowy conditions for inexperienced winter drivers without 4-or all-wheel vehicles.
