Santa Clara County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg represents more than 400,000 residents in District 4, which includes west San Jose, the cities of Campbell and Los Gatos, and the unincorporated communities of Burbank and Cambrian.


She was elected in 2018 for her first term on the board and easily kept her seat for a second term, winning unopposed in the June 2022 primary.


Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Ellenberg moved to San Jose in 1991. She has worked as a real estate and land-use attorney and has a strong interest in education. Ellenberg is an American Leadership Forum Senior Fellow. According to her official biography, she focuses her efforts on “prioritizing children, supporting mothers, empowering youth and stabilizing families.”


Alma maters: Barnard College (bachelor’s degree in American history), Columbia University School of Law (doctor of law)


Other offices held: San Jose Unified School District Board of Trustees, 2014-2018 (board president in 2018)


Commissions and boards: Chair of the county’s Public Safety and Justice Committee, vice chair of the Health and Hospitals Committee. Also serves as chair of First 5 Santa Clara County and on the boards of Joint Venture Silicon Valley and Silicon Valley Clean Energy.
