The Sacramento Office of the City Clerk acts as a bridge between the city council and the general public for all matters of legislation, as well as local archives. A sampling of the clerk’s responsibilities include administering meetings, collecting campaign disclosures, upholding public records laws, and officiating elections. The public can also access claim filings and requests for public information.

The Office of the City Clerk no longer provides passport application processing. Citizens can visit the Sacramento Public Library Central Branch or call the library's passport line: (916) 264-2920.
