Formed in 1999 by the Sacramento City Council as the Office of Police Accountability, the name was changed to Office of Public Safety Accountability to include community complaints about the Sacramento Fire Department as well. Serious misconduct cases are tracked and monitored until a conclusion is formed and reported to appropriate chief. Citizens can file misconduct complaints online, by phone or in person within one year from the date of the incident.
