Rancho Cordova has a council/manager form of government. Citizens elect five councilmembers at large who serve four-year terms. The position of mayor and vice mayor rotate annually in December. The city holds elections on the first Tuesday of November in even-numbered years.

The Rancho Cordova City Council voted unanimously April 21 to delay a decision on the proposed Mills Crossing development, after a packed meeting filled with public comments raised significant concerns over parking, public safety and the role of a planned wellness center.
The Rancho Cordova City Council held a busy session on April 7, discussing several key initiatives, including a special proclamation, fiscal updates, homelessness strategies and the city’s new two-year strategic framework.
The second annual Spring Service Day is set for Saturday, May 17 and the city is calling on the community to come together in celebration of volunteerism and civic engagement.
The Cordova Community Council and the Rancho Cordova Area Chamber of Commerce discussed the growing development in the city during their monthly luncheon on March 21.
