A Stockton resident since 1993, Dan Wright was appointed to the City Council in January 2015, representing District 2. He began his first elected term in January 2017, was appointed vice mayor in 2019 and has been on his second elected term since January 2021. Wright spent 25 years in school administration, and served as the acting superintendent for Stockton Unified School District, in addition to the assistant superintendent and director. He aims to serve his community by ensuring financial stability; increasing public safety and the city’s workforce development; and supporting early literacy programs.
As for Wright’s plans in 2024, the longtime Stockton resident filed paperwork in May 2023 to run for Stockton’s top job, and confirmed his decision to the news outlet Stocktonia.
Alma maters: California State University, Los Angeles (master’s degree, educational leadership and administration); University of Wisconsin-Madison (bachelor’s degree, elementary education)
Notable quotes: “I know everybody feels a sense of urgency, and we want this to happen—yesterday. But life doesn’t work that way. The good thing is ... you’re seeing tonight we’re completing some projects, and [the Stockton Homeless Shelter’s navigation center] is one of the big ones. This is a big win for the city of Stockton.” (Source: Stocktonia)
“I’m excited to see the bike lanes,” Wright said at a meeting about Stockton’s Downtown East-West Connection Project. “I worked for SUSD for a number of years and I drove Park Street every day on my way to work, and it really did get to be a freeway at some points during the day. We need some more of a physical barrier there other than just painted on lines, you know, to encourage people not to kill our bicycle riders.” (Source: Stocktonia)
