A native of Tracy and a graduate of local schools, Mateo Bedolla has worked in the construction industry since he was 17 years old. After graduating from college, Bedolla was hired as a congressional staffer for U.S. Congressman Jerry McNerney in 2015. His duties included helping seniors and veterans resolve their issues with Social Security and the Veterans Administration.

At the age of 28, he entered the eight-person race for two seats on the Tracy City Council in the 2020 general election. As the second-highest vote-getter, Bedolla became the youngest council member in the city’s history.

In 2022, Bedolla launched an unsuccessful bid for mayor against incumbent Nancy Young. Bedolla campaigned on the need for infrastructure and recreational amenities. Regarding his dissenting votes on development, such as the second phase of Tracy Hills, Bedolla said, “We need leadership to be on the same page as the community when it comes to infrastructure, pushing for amenities sooner than later, making sure that we build that roadway infrastructure before we build homes.”

First elected: Nov. 3, 2020

Day job: Construction manager

Alma mater: California State University, East Bay (Class of 2015)

Notable quote: “With my leadership based on being a 30-year resident of Tracy with deep roots in the city I have a vested interest in improving the quality of life for our community—whether it’s better paying local jobs, fixing our roads, or building amenities for our residents. By rejecting special interest money I will continue to be an independent voice and my commitment to bringing positive change to the residents of Tracy will always be the foundation of my service to you.” (Source: Tracy Press)
