This department manages the city’s environmental utility services and works with the community to protect the environment. It is made up of four divisions: Water and Sewer; Water Pollution Control Plant; Solid Waste Management; and Regulatory Compliance and Sustainability.

Environmental Services handles the following: operations and maintenance of potable and recycled water systems and the sewer systems; the treatment of wastewater at the Water Pollution Control Plant; the collection of garbage and recyclables from residents and businesses; and the diversion of recyclables through the operation of the Sunnyvale Materials Recovery and Transfer Station.
