The City of Gilroy Police Department employs 65 sworn officers and 40 professional staff, which are deployed in the following areas: administration, anti-crime team, communications 911, crime analysis, detectives, records, and the traffic unit. 

The department fields a mounted unit and a bike patrol unit, and also has teams that handle crime scene investigation, major accident investigation, special operations and hostage negotiation.
