The purpose of Fire Safe Council of Santa Cruz County is to educate and mobilize the people of Santa Cruz County to protect their community, homes, and environment from wildfire.
Two-thirds of Santa Cruz County is considered wildland urban interface, putting the community at risk from catastrophic fire. The council helps citizens prevent fires with chipping programs, creating defensible space, and planting fire-resistant landscaping.
This all-volunteer organization also supports communities interested in Firewise USA, which is a national program hosted by the National Fire Protection Association.
