Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation

The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation exists to protect the environment, waters, and wildlife of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

The Monterey Bay region is revered for its beautiful yet delicate ecosystem. While thousands of people visit the local aquarium each year, there are also preservation groups like the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation that work to raise funds and protect every aspect of the region's natural wildlife and resources.

Its mission is to educate and inspire the public to protect Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary through various projects, partnerships and programs. 

Together with the office of National Marine Sanctuaries, team members advocate, educate the public, and identify partnerships that will further the protection of biodiversity and ecosystem health.

Current areas that the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation focus on include the following:

• BayNet—This program trains people to be educators and speakers in schools and at community events. 
• Team OCEAN—Naturalists volunteer their time outside of their regular working hours to educate boaters and other groups that regularly spend time in and around the bay about safe fishing and recreation. 
• Whale Rescue—This program provides equipment upgrades that aid in whale rescues, as well as first responders in the instance of whale entanglement and other at-risk marine life situations.
