This all-volunteer, nonprofit animal shelter located in Santa Cruz rescues animals from unsafe environments and/or situations and relieves animals from overcrowded animal shelters.

In 2008, Amy Strickland formed ASR as a local shelter that focuses on cats and special-needs animals. Over the years, ASR has helped many injured, sick, and orphaned animals—more than 1,500 animals in 2016 alone.

ASR offers adoption services along with perpetual care programs that allow pet owners to plan ahead. The perpetual care programs provide a safe environment for pets when pet owners are no longer able to care for their four-legged family.
