Santa Cruz Barrios Unidos is a movement that promotes “multicultural social justice, nonviolence and economic equity through cultural healing, civic leadership and youth & community development.”

Since 1977, BU’s mission is to heal its community by building sustainable peace. It serves as a multicultural nonprofit that advocates for the connection between cultural consciousness and political action in relations to oppressions of poverty. Its current programs include:

  • Prison Project: lecture series, reentry resource events
  • Juvenile Transitional Program: trauma-informed curricula and counseling services directly focused on providing reentry support 
  • Evening Center: offers BU curriculum to youth involved in probationary stage
  • AB109: Adult reentry services
  • Educational Outreach: on-side, culture-based programming for local high schools
  • Kids Clubs: community based after school programming
