VOLUNTEER DONATE
Habitat for Humanity works to build homes for those in need, while also creating a positive community for both volunteers and those who benefit.
According to the group’s website, this is Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento’s mission statement: “Seeking to put love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.” This is accomplished through building homes that not only help those in need but also challenges those involved in the process.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento is part of the global, nonprofit housing organization holding the same name. In addition to building new homes, Habitat also renovates and rehabilitates existing structures to expand resources. Central to the group’s beliefs are that everyone should have a safe and durable home and every fortunate individual has a social and moral responsibility to help the working poor. Habitat for Humanity also seeks partnerships with local groups so that, instead of reinventing the wheel, volunteers work together to strengthen each other.
This organization relies on volunteers and donations of equipment and housing supplies to get the job done. The Sacramento chapter is also home to ReStore, a thrift style store that sells home improvement pieces for those on a budget looking to complete their own necessary projects.
