Lucas Frerichs began his first term on the Yolo County Board of Supervisors in January of 2023 as the representative of District 2, which encompasses the cities of Davis and Winters. At his swearing-in, reports the Davis Enterprise, Frerichs said he was following in the footsteps of his grandfather, who served as a county supervisor in rural New York—and the 87-year-old was able to watch the ceremony via a Facebook live stream.

A former member of the Davis City Council, Frerichs strives to be a regional voice for smart growth, multi-modal transportation, public safety, economic development, and environmental sustainability. For many years he worked as a staffer in the California State Assembly, and he most recently worked as associate director of state policy for the Nature Conservancy.

Freirichs spent nearly a decade advocating for affordable housing throughout Davis and Yolo County as president of Yolo Mutual Housing Association (now Mutual Housing California). He previously served on the board of the Davis Food Co-op and the regionally recognized Yolo Basin Foundation.

Notable quote:There are major issues on the horizon—needed investment in infrastructure (roads, broadband), working to strengthen a softening economy, work to ensure our resilience against climate change (including wildfire, drought and occasional flood risks) and we always need to work to keep our communities safe, healthy and thriving. We will address all of these issues in a collaborative way, partnerships between the county, cities, Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, UC Davis, as well as the private sector (including the agricultural community) and even the state and federal governments—it is going to take all of these partners to achieve our shared goals.” (Source: Davis Democrat, May 10, 2023)
