Treating dissociation with dreamwork. Today, meet psychotherapist Marilyn Manzi who treats women with acute stress disorder using what she calls dream psychotherapy. We start by defining acute stress disorder Then talk about the timeline by which trauma develops into PTSD and how dream psychotherapy can prevent and even reverse the long-term after effects of trauma. She describes her work which begins with co-regulation between therapist and client. She uses techniques such as rescripting of difficult dreams, looking for transcendent dream moments, and incubating solutions to waking life issues. We answer an email question from Rissa about individuation. After the break we get more personal, and Marilyn talks about her self-care routine as a psychotherapist. We then take a call from Jenny from Santa Cruz who shares a dream about women on a boat which we look at as an example of a dream about individuation,At the end of the show, Marilyn turns the tables and asks about my history of learning to be a dream coach and about the book I am currently writing around dreamwork as a kind of treasure hunt.BIO: Marilyn D. Tune in at 12 a.m., Monday, September 9th, and hear the Gypsy Scholar present part 2 of the Orphic Essay-with-Soundtrack “Labor Day: A Misplaced Federal Holiday.” This musical essay will present a historical background to a Federal holiday (supposedly “to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements in the United States”) that was in 1894, after the hard-won successes of the union movement’s labor strikes around May Day, strategically moved to the first Monday in September by President Grover Cleveland in order to distance and disassociate the holiday from the anarchist and socialist power of May Day (1890). This was an attempt to minimize the threat to the big capitalist interests in the U.S.A. In other words, the Gypsy Scholar will, at a present moment when the union movement is again on the rise and being more empowered, attempt to raise the awareness of the American people that their Labor Day holiday is actually a misplaced holiday and that the first true Labor Day was May 1, 1886.Be sure to check out the new “Labor Day” webpage dedicated to this musical essay at revradiotowerofsong.com.
On WHAT A WEEK, join host Erik Nelson as he as an “off-the-record” conversation with Atlantic Magazine staff writer Franklin Foer, as they discuss all things Election 2024, plus so much more. Foer is the author of "The Last Politician: Inside Joe Biden's White House and the Struggle for America's Future”, and was previously the editor of The New Republic and a writer at Slate and New York magazine, so, his insights on the current ecology of the media and All Things Election Apocalypse represent a VERY informed opinion. Hear for yourself!
A course through CSUMB under the banner of the OSHER Center is bringing in local stories of immigrants and their descendants. The guests and teachers of the course are former president of Chabot College, Celia Barbarena, PhD and former Dean at CSUMB, Chris Hasegawa, PhD. With heated rhetoric bashing immigrants, local people are speaking out. The course is called: “Immigrants: Our Life Stories” through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at CSU Monterey Bay.
Katie Thompson is the new Executive Director of Save Our Shores, the organization which runs the annual Coast Cleanup among other great ocean conservation programs.
Join Erik Nelson for two hours of prime “AmeriArcana” — as we celebrate some of the weirdest, wildest, and most wonderful Country music ever picked and ever grinned — on this inaugural edition of “Surfin’ Hootenanny.” The 40's, 50's, and 60's were an era defined by boundary-shattering musical artists who wrote and performed classic music that celebrated the hard drinkin’ and hard lovin’ world of Saturday night — and then — wallowed in guilt that next Sunday morning. Hear for yourself and atone for those sins!!document.createElement('audio');https://ksqd.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Surfin-Hootenanny-1.mp3

She was already 10 days later. My sister Rosie and her best friend Charla had been there at our house for the birth that didn’t happen (they did leave behind a very nice teddy bear called Rob who is still around today), and then they had to go back to the UK. My parents had arrived to stay in Carmel and herald the newborn’s arrival a few days after sister left. But here we were, late-late-late. Still nothing.
Police Reports are obtained from the local police departments.
