Homeless women are always welcome for a healthy meal and a shower—and much more—at Gathering for Women. They can pick out gently used clothes, along with toiletries and outdoor gear, and have a place to learn about resources and services for permanent housing.
It’s all part of the group’s mission to provide “the dignity a woman needs to remain safe and healthy as she seeks affordable housing and a more sustainable and secure future.” In 2021, Gathering for Women also opened Casa de Noche Buena, the shelter for homeless women and families in Seaside.

Pam Marino here, celebrating one of the great success stories on the homelessness beat: the creation, rise and continual growth of Gathering for Women, the only organization on the Monterey Peninsula focused on serving women experiencing homelessness.
With over 200 people on the waitlist for Casa de Noche Buena, a homeless shelter for women and families in Seaside, a new $6.2 million, 35-bed shelter planned for Monterey can’t come fast enough.
