VOLUNTEER DONATE

The Truckee Donner Land Trust was established in 1990 to protect the area’s open space and to manage recreational activities on those lands in a sustainable manner.

Since its inception, the trust has protected more than 40,000 acres in the Truckee area, preserving wildlife habitat, forests, watersheds and outdoor recreation destinations for the benefit of wildlife and people.

The land trust primarily buys open space outright, or purchases a conservation easement on land, in order to permanently protect it and open it for the public to enjoy. Once a piece of land is protected, the land trust builds trails (45 miles and counting), performs forestry projects and stewards the land for future generations to enjoy.

Properties protected by the Land Trust include Frog Lake, Lower Carpenter Valley, Webber Lake Campground, Royal Gorge, Waddle Ranch and Truckee Springs, to name a few, with popular trails including the Donner Lake Rim Trail and Elizabethtown Meadow Trail.
