In 1988, Charleen “Crickett” Strock started working part-time for the Town of Loomis. In 1994 she was hired as deputy town clerk; in 1991 she filled the staff town clerk position full time, which involves handling records management and acting as elections officer. “I keep records for the council,” Strock told Gold Country Media. “I’m there for council to help and assist them, set up extra meetings and perform other duties. I’m basically a secretary for the council.” But she also fills another role: the elected position of Town Clerk, a ceremonial post for which she receives compensation of $50 per month, with duties that include swearing in newly elected officials and signing ordinances and resolutions. Strock was appointed to fill the elected position in 1996 and has been winning reelection ever since.
