Town Treasurer Roger Carroll

Roger Carroll was first elected in 2000 to fill the part-time, mostly ceremonial position of Town Treasurer. But he was already serving as finance director for the Town of Loomis—a full-time staff position he has held since 1994. Carroll is a certified public accountant with a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Sacramento. In an interview with Gold Country Media, Carroll said, “Accounting can be dull. Numbers are numbers and sometimes you go cross-eyed. But I love being involved with the community and I know that what I’m doing makes sure that the people’s tax dollars are properly spent on valuable projects. In local government is where the rubber hits the road. It’s where we are literally making sure streets are paved, lights are on and things are working properly.”

Carroll was set to serve in his elected position until November 2024, but on April 8 he was killed in a hit-and-run accident while he was cycling in rural Sutter County. Town Manager Sean Rabé told Gold Country Media, “I have never met someone who took such pride in his job. The town is in the financial position it is in now because Roger was so good at his job. Loomis was his town and he took immense pride in his work.”
