The Tahoe Fund supports environmental projects around Lake Tahoe Basin.
The increase in tourism and visitation to Lake Tahoe during the summer and winter months brings traffic, litter, and congestion, causing a greater impact on the local environment than anyone ever anticipated.
Fortunately, groups like the Tahoe Fund look at the big picture of what’s happening around the lake and provides private funding for environmental projects that emphasize protecting the lake’s clarity, the health of its surrounding forest, and sustainable recreation and transportation. Tahoe Fund donors help bridge the gap caused by the decline in public funding for environmental protection. Plus, people donating their own hard-earned money shows federal and state officials that the local community is willing to do whatever it takes to protect and preserve Lake Tahoe, thus proving why public funding is so necessary.
One of its biggest ongoing projects is facilitating the development of paved bike paths that help connect existing trails around the lake. Its completed projects include restoring highly trafficked trails in Desolation Wilderness, Blackwood Canyon, and even putting funds toward a digital acoustic owl monitoring system as part of a US Forest Service-Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit project.
