San Juan Bautista celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2019, but its roots go back much further—not just to 1797, when the 15th Spanish mission in Alta California was founded there, but to the Mutsunes, a branch of the Ohlone Indians, who lived in the region. Thanks to the efforts of preservationists, the city can boast of three national historic landmarks: the Juan Bautista de Anza House, the General José Castro house, and the San Juan Bautista Plaza Historic District,

City Council

Members of the public are invited to attend the San Juan Bautista City Council meetings, which take place at 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission, which consists of five members appointed by the City Council, meets the first Tuesday of each month. Meetings are open to the public and streamed live.
