The Community Development Department’s is to work with the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission to provide residents with a healthy living environment and judiciously utilize the county’s resources for the health and welfare of all.

The department has four divisions. Planning/Development Services regulates all new development projects. Building Inspection ensures public safety by administering the California Fire Code, regulating new building construction, and inspecting existing buildings. Code Enforcement investigates complaints related to building and land use regulations that are received from individuals and groups. And GIS Mapping is responsible for maintaining most of the county’s map data in electronic form, and providing map-based analysis.
