After serving six years on the Escalon Planning Commission, Shawn Strohman won a two-year term on the City Council in 2022. Strohman had lived in Escalon for 18 years before joining the council, and his experience on the Planning Commission shaped his campaign. Strohman ran as a supporter of the “Sphere of Influence Plan” approved by the Planning Commission, which affirms Escalon’s small-town way of life. He also seeks to address the need for improved city infrastructure and more middle-income senior housing, and he supports a study on the feasibility of a community pool, skate park and dog park.
“My vision for Escalon is balanced,” Strohman wrote on his Facebook page during the 2022 campaign. “I would like to maintain our slow-growth ordinance and retain the characteristics and feel of the town that we love.”
First elected: Nov. 8, 2022
Day job: Project Executive at Roebbelen Contracting, Inc.
Alma maters: Pennsylvania College of Technology (bachelor’s degree, construction management); University of Notre Dame (certificate program, executive management).
Other positions held: Escalon Planning Commission, Escalon USD Bond Oversight Committee, founder of Cub Scout Pack 263.
Notable quote: “In the last few years, we have had three crisis situations where all residents were affected and yet, the only information that was shared at the time was through a private Facebook group. We need to get back to the type of communication from City Staff, the Police Chief, and the City Council, acting as a united front, to keep us all well-informed, with facts, to avoid speculation and misinformation. We must act as we and not I.” (Source: Escalon Times)
