The City Council—consisting of the mayor and four councilmembers—is responsible for enacting legislation and policies for the city of Tracy. The mayor is elected to a two-year term while councilmembers serve for four years. In 2008, the citizens of Tracy voted for a two-term maximum limit for holding office as a councilmember and a two-term maximum limit for holding office as mayor.
Regular meeting agendas are published at least 72 hours in advance of the meeting. Special meeting agendas are published at least 24 hours in advance. Agendas are online and are also posted at City Hall and at the Tracy Public Library (20 East Eaton Ave).
