The city administrator is Gilroy’s chief executive officer and head of the administrative branch of the city government. Appointed by the City Council, the city administrator oversees the affairs of the city and ensures that the laws of the state pertaining to the city are enforced.

The city administrator works with the mayor and councilmembers to form the legislative agenda, and oversees the Police, Fire, Community Development, Community Services, Finance, and Administration departments. The city administrator handles the city’s $120 million budget and serves as Gilroy’s director of emergency services.
