George K. Tyson was elected to the Los Altos Hills Town Council in 2018 along with Mayor Kavita Tankha. Running for council at age 62, Tyson brought years of experience leading teams, managing budgets, and filling leadership roles in both large companies and startups. Asked by Los Altos Online about the race, Tyson said, “Something I’m very pleased with, this whole campaign, unlike so many others, we avoided negativity. We kept civility. And I thought that was great that we focused on the issues rather than any negative things, and I think that will make us a better town.”

Day job: Pharmaceutical manufacturing consultant

Alma maters: San Jose State University (MBA, and also bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering)

Other positions held: Los Altos Hills County Fire Commission

Notable quote: Asked about the most important issue for the town council, Tyson told Los Altos Online, “We will continue to face development pressure, with ever-increasing efforts to push the boundaries with new house construction. Our General Plan is a good one, well-conceived and articulated, and I would support it to make sure there is proper restraint (e.g., re variances on housing size and setbacks).”
