In 2020, incumbent Sergio Jimenez bested his challenger in the spring primary and earned another term representing District 2, which covers South San Jose. Jimenez was born in Mexico and came to the States when he was three years old; he became a citizen in 2008. Raised in East San José by his single mother, Jimenez was the first in his family to attend college, where he met his wife while they were undergrads at San Jose State. They now live in District 2 with their three children.
Prior to joining the council, Jimenez worked as an investigator for the Santa Clara County Public Defender’s Office. He also was very active in community service for years, founding the Oak Grove Neighborhood Association and serving on the San Jose Parks and Recreation Commission, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group's Neighborhood Leaders Council, and the board of Somos Mayfair, among other positions.

Alma mater: San Jose State University (bachelor’s degree, political science; graduate work in public administration)
Notable quote: “While taking in the magnificent view from the 18th floor of City Hall with the downtown lights shining bright, I remind myself that I am in this role to serve you, the resident. The work of the community begins and ends not on the 18th floor, but in the community where many of you strive to make San José a better place for present and future generations.” (Source: District 2 website)
