Mechanical hazard tree removal will begin this week in the Caldor Fire Area off Pioneer Trail near South Lake Tahoe and on Echo Summit this fall. The purpose of the Tahoe Basin Caldor Hazard Tree Fuels Reduction Project is to reduce excess vegetation (fuels) associated with remaining hazard trees, and to stabilize and revegetate priority areas disturbed by fire suppression and initial hazard tree removal activities.
Meeks Bay Fire has officially merged into the North Tahoe Fire Protection District in an impressive bi-county annexation deal that is set to go into effect early next year.
In their second virtual workshop of the summer, El Dorado County's team for the Tahoe El Dorado (TED) Area Plan presented the feedback and engagement they've received over the summer and discussed the next steps. The team projects that the final TED plan phase will be completed in June 2026, when they will adopt a final area plan.

A Folsom neighborhood was literally rocked on Monday when blasting at a construction site south of Highway 50 sent flying rocks and debris into nearby homes, vehicles, and a community clubhouse, causing multiple incidents of damage.
It was just a year a couple months ago that leaders from the City of Folsom and members of the Folsom Fire Department stood on bare dirt to officially break ground on the city;’s first fire station to be built south of highway 50. Now, city officials are gearing up that fire station into service by the end of the month.
Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team forest thinning projects are underway and scheduled to continue for the next several weeks, conditions and weather permitting. Some projects are expected to continue through the fall.
Members of the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, along with local dignitaries, neighboring agencies, and community members, came together over the weekend to celebrate the decorated career and retirement of a local fire captain.
Update at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3: The Bear Fire in Sierra County has grown to 1,578 acres and is still 0% contained.
