The Placerville Police Department is composed of 20 sworn officers and 11 professional staff. The department strives to use the latest police practices and guidelines, implementing two means of alerting citizens by phone, text, and email: CodeRed and Nixle.

Patrol officers and team members in the Operations Division provide a variety of services. The division includes uniformed patrol teams, a K-9 unit, a Homeless Outreach Team in conjunction with the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, a school resource officer, and the bike patrol program.

The department is also active in community meetings, and officers volunteer as coaches and board members of volunteer organizations.
