Dave Peterson is a licensed civil engineer specializing in water resources, with three-plus decades in private practice. He cofounded a new water resources engineering firm in Folsom in 2005, and in 2020 sold his interest in the firm but continues in a part-time emeritus role. He has previously served on the boards of San Juan Water District, Association of California Water Agencies, Water for the West Foundation, and the National Water Resources Association. Peterson grew up in South Lake Tahoe in the 1960s and ’70s and has now returned to the area for an active and fulfilling retirement.

The South Tahoe Public Utility District Board of Directors voted to adopt new water and sewer rates that will go into effect July 1, 2025. These increases will fund essential upgrades to aging water, sewer, and recycled water infrastructure.

The South Tahoe Public Utility District is moving forward with a wide range of capital improvement projects this summer aimed at minimizing long-term costs, protecting Lake Tahoe, and delivering high-quality, reliable water, wastewater, and recycled water services for the South Shore community.
The South Tahoe Public Utility District (District) is launching free public tours at its wastewater treatment plant on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. The 45-minute tours will provide residents with a behind the scenes look at how the facility operates and the critical role it plays in cleaning wastewater.
Last Tuesday, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in favor of San Francisco, making it harder for the Environmental Protection Agency to police sewage discharges like San Francisco's discharge of sewage into the Pacific Ocean during particularly heavy rains. Though it sets a precedent for cities and counties to make their own decisions regarding permit changes, the South Tahoe Public Utility District will be maintaining their rigorous water quality standards to protect the lake and those who live here.
