When Tyller Williamson moved to the Central Coast in 2011, he fell in love with the region. Williamson’s mother served in the Navy for 20 years, so the family moved around the country. In his biography on the city website, Williamson says he never lived anywhere long enough to grow roots. In Monterey, he found a community that accepted him. As an organizer for President Obama’s re-election campaign, Williamson managed 30 staff and some 500 volunteers. More recently, he co-founded Monterey Peninsula Pride; drawing more than 700 attendees, it was the first pride event in this community for more a decade. The councilmember also works at the Naval Postgraduate School, where he did postgraduate studies in defense business management.

First elected: November 2018

Alma mater: California State University Monterey Bay (bachelor’s degree)

Notable quote: “It is way past the point like we can just sit on our hands,” Williamson said about a local Justice for George Floyd protest. “We want to make sure it’s clear this is not acceptable here nor anywhere else.” (Source: Monterey County Weekly)
