Local planning councils were enacted by the California state legislature in 1991 with the primary mission of planning for child care and development services based on the needs of families in the local community. With half of its members appointed by the County Board of Supervisors and the other half by the County Superintendent of Schools, the Santa Cruz County Childhood Advisory Council provides input on federal and state resources apportioned to counties. Members include parents, community members, educators, and early care and education professionals. The council’s website provides useful information for educators and parents alike, with links to many local resources.
