A lifelong Californian who was born in Napa, Joe Patterson moved to the Sacramento region in 2000, where he and his wife are raising four children. Patterson was elected to the Rocklin City Council in November 2016, served as mayor in 2019, and was reelected in 2020. As a member of the council, Patterson says his priorities are ensuring transparent and responsive government; keeping Rocklin among the state’s safest communities; enhancing parks and open space; partnering with schools; and incubating and attracting quality businesses. After several years working as a legislative staffer, Patterson entered the private sector and recently launched Provident Strategies, where he works with associations, non-profits, and businesses on regulatory compliance, legislative policy, and public affairs. He is an active volunteer, serving as treasurer for the Rocklin Public Safety Foundation and coaching T-Ball for the Rocklin Little League, among other commitments.
On July 1, 2022, looking ahead to a runoff election for an Assembly seat in November, Patterson resigned from his second term in order to give residents the chance to vote on his successor.
