San Benito County's first openly gay elected official was inspired to run for office by what he told San Benito Live is “a lapse in communication between local government and what the citizens actually want, need and are asking for.”

His priorities as a councilmember representing District 2 are proactively investing in infrastructure parks and schools. In addition to his day job as teacher at Hollister Prep School, Resendiz is a member of LULAC, Women’s Club, and Mom’s Club of Hollister and has served as a board member for the San Benito County Arts Council and was the vice president of the Mexican American Committee on Education in San Benito County. “I feel like we only get one opportunity to do this, so we need the right people sitting on that council to help us with that,” he says.

Resendiz was reelected in November 2022.

First elected: Nov. 6, 2018

Day job: Teacher

Alma maters: Fort Hays State University (master’s degree, public administration); California State University, Stanislaus (bachelor’s degree, political science).
