When he announced his plan to run for City Council in 2016, the Mountain View Voice described Lucas Ramirez as a 27-year-old “civics dynamo” who attended almost every council meeting as an observer for the local League of Women Voters. Though his bid failed, Ramirez was philosophical. “I don't feel like I should be too surprised. It was always an uphill battle," he told the Mountain View Voice. But for the 2018 election, Ramirez reached his goal—a job the lifelong Mountain View resident trained for on the city’s Environmental Planning Commission and Human Relations Commission. And he keeps his campaign website current as another way to communicate with his constituents—which seems to have worked out well, since he was elected to his second term in 2022.

First elected: Nov. 6, 2018

Day job: Council policy and legislative analyst for San Jose Councilmember Sergio Jimenez.

Alma mater: Santa Clara University (bachelor’s degree, music)

Notable quote: “The housing affordability crisis and traffic congestion are the two most pressing issues facing the city. Land use and transportation policy must be integrated. New development must adhere to ‘smart growth’ principles to encourage use of transit and alternative modes of transportation.” (Source: Los Altos Town Crier)
