Emily Ann Ramos began serving on the Mountain View City Council in February of 2023, and has always been a Silicon Valley local. She grew up in Fremont, attended San Jose’s Notre Dame High School, and then went on to the California Maritime Academy. After earning a degree in mechanical engineering, she moved back home to Fremont.

Prior to receiving her degree, her passion for politics took firm root after she dropped into a Barack Obama campaign office. She is an alumna of the Young Democrats of America and helped with Cory Wolbach’s successful 2014 campaign for Palo Alto City Council.

First elected office: Ramos was appointed to the Mountain View City Council on February 2023 to fill the vacancy left when former Councilmember Sally Lieber was elected to a statewide office.

Alma mater: California Maritime Academy (mechanical engineering, 2018)

Notable quote: With my addition to the council, this is the first time we’re going to have a majority minority council in the history of Mountain View. I remember looking back to see the past council members of color, and you can’t even fill up both hands with the number of people of color who have sat on our City Council.” (Source: Mountain View Voice)
