It appears El Dorado County’s proposed homeless shelter/navigation center will not break ground this fall. A motion to award a construction contract and transfer funds failed to get a necessary four-fifths vote, with Lori Parlin and George Turnboo voting no.

Diamond Springs-El Dorado residents, housing developer Stonehenge LLC and El Dorado County staff met to discuss two proposed area projects. Citizens cited worries about traffic impacts, fire danger and evacuations and water usage. Stonehenge wants to build 156 single-family homes and 225 multi-family units south of the Highway 49 and Faith Lane intersection.

Placer County and the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors partnered for the second year in a row to provide a nomadic winter housing program. Operations expanded beyond last year’s 90 days, and the number of filled beds doubled.

Following unanimous approval of the 2022 Capital Improvement Program, Ponderosa Road is going to get an upgrade for pedestrian safety. Sidewalks will be installed near the high school, with work starting as soon as 2023. The Board of Supervisors praised the project and offered matching funds to further it along.

A new Mt. Murphy Road Bridge could begin construction in 2024, as the project is going through final approval stages. The current bridge was built in 1915 to connect Highway 49 and Mt. Murphy Road over the river.
