A class of senior peer counselors, recently graduated, are ready to provide confidential, one-on-one supportive help to seniors 55 years and older throughout the county. The volunteers, also 55-plus, are overseen by a licensed therapist.

A caregiver at a Folsom senior living facility accused of elder abuse made her first appearance in Sacramento Superior Court since her arrest. The caregiver is accused of abusing a 90-year-old woman with dementia who was evacuated from her Pollock Pines home during the Caldor Fire.

Pinochle, bridge, bingo, Zumba and line dancing are all happening once again at the Gilmore Senior Center in El Dorado Hills. The facility reopened Sept. 1 after an 18-month hiatus.

Despite concerns about water consumption, road congestion and potentially inadequate affordable housing fees, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to approve Heritage at Carson Creek Village 11 in El Dorado Hills, an age-restricted community by Lennar Homes.

Some county residents have lost their Senior Nutrition Program lunch venue after many years of dining at the Mother Lode Lions Club facility in Diamond Springs. The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors voted not to renew the facility use permit with the service club.
