The Police Department is responsible for law enforcement and crime prevention within the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

The Monterey Fire Department staffs the Carmel Fire Department, protecting the lives and property of residents, businesses, and visitors for the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Firefighters prevent and suppress fires, respond to emergency medical calls, and educate the public on safety topics.
