The Marina Fire Department is an "all risk" department, meaning it responds to calls regardless of the nature of the incident. Its history began in 1956, when the Marina Fire District was formed as an all-volunteer force. For a time it provided police and fire services, but in 2007 the departments split. The Fire Department now recruits and hires dedicated fire staff. The informational resources it provides to the community go well beyond just fire prevention, however. Its section on disaster preparedness offers information on how to get ready for earthquakes, electrical outages, floods, tsunamis and wildfires.
