Alejandro Chavez has worked in both the public sector and the private sector, with a résumé that includes such varied jobs as athletic director of a middle school in Salinas for six years and chief of staff for Monterey County District 1 Supervisor Fernando Armenta from 2000 to 2017. He has served on various boards, including Pajaro Valley Affordable Housing Corp, Central Coast YMCA, and the South County YMCA.
He first joined the Soledad City Council in November of 2010 and was most recently reelected in November 2022. According to his biography on the city’s website, Chavez is the executive director of an association representing more than 700 businesses. He represents the city on the on the Transportation Agency of Monterey County board of directors and is the alternate on the AMBAG board of directors. He also serves on the city’s Parks and Recreation Committee and Budget Committee.
On Oct. 31, 2023, Chavez stepped down from his council seat, announcing that he was moving out of the area. The Soledad City Council voted to fill Chavez’s vacancy by election, rather than making an appointment. The seat will be filled by voters in the March 5, 2024 presidential primary election.
