Mayor Lance Walker

Born in 1968, Lance Walker has lived in the Salinas Valley his entire life. He attended Greenfield Union School District schools and graduated from King City High School. In his Twitter bio, Walker proclaims himself “Sales Representative at Green Valley Industrial Supply. City Councilman. Musician, Guitarist, Songwriter. Music Is My Gravity, Without It I'd Spin Out Of Control.” In his biography on the city website, Walker notes that he didn’t think about getting into politics until 2012, even though his father and step-grandfather both served on the Greenfield City Council.

In 2012 Walker waged a successful council campaign that focused on “public safety, economic growth and bridging the divide within the community.” In 2018 he won his bid for mayor, supported by the pro-business Salinas Valley Leadership Group. In a statement on the group’s website, Walker said, “As mayor, my goals are to continue to improve public safety and move current economic growth efforts forward. We have exciting opportunities with Yanks Air Museum, Courthouse, The Vines development and South End Annexation project. Revitalizing downtown El Camino Real and attracting recreational opportunities are also crucial.”
