The Grass Valley Police Department is a full-service, community policing organization. The department has 44 paid positions, including 28 sworn police officers, seven reserve officers, three animal control officers, and several civilian support staff.
GVPD also has a program with 12 active volunteers who assist with police services. Called the Volunteer Patrol, the department was created in 1995. The goal of this program is to recruit, train, and deploy citizen volunteers to perform routine, non-hazardous police functions, thereby allowing officers to concentrate on those duties that only police personnel can perform.
