The Morgan Hill City Council consists of a mayor, who is directly elected citywide to serve a two-year term. The four councilmembers are elected by district to serve four-year terms. Morgan Hill uses the services of the County of Santa Clara Registrar of Voters’ Office to consolidate local elections. Regular elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years. Special elections may be called by the City Council and are held on dates as set forth in the California Elections Code.

The city spends more than $200,000 per year in fees for processing credit card payments for various city services—including utilities, business licenses and recreation.
