At the end of 2022, Sally Lieber stepped down from her seat on the Mountain View City Council after she decided she was unable to continue in that position while also serving as a member of the state Board of Equalization—a position to which she was elected in the general election on Nov. 8, 2022.

Sally Lieber began her career in public service on the Mountain View City Council in 1998, and now she’s back after serving in the California State Assembly, where she represented District 1 from 2002 to 2008. After an unsuccessful run for the State Senate, Lieber set her sights on a return engagement on the City Council. Lieber was the second highest vote-getter in the race for four at-large seats, despite some negative campaign mailers funded by the California Association of Realtors and the California Apartment Association. As reported by the Mountain View Voice and the Los Altos Town Crier, Lieber believed she was targeted because of her strong support for renters’ rights. “My vision for our City includes inclusive and affordable housing, seamless transit, sustainable environmental practices, equitable and effective safety services, and a City Council that is proactive in preventing harm and protecting those in need,” she stated on her campaign website, SallyLieber.org.

First elected: Nov. 3, 2020

Alma mater: Stanford University (public policy)
